CEREC Single Visit Crown
What is a CEREC Same-Day Crown?
Dentist Mounds View
When a tooth is severely damaged or decayed, a filling may not be enough. A dental crown is a restorative dental treatment that caps or covers a damaged tooth in order to enhance the tooth’s appearance and retain the tooth root. At his Mounds View, Minnesota dental practice, Dr. Sharara uses CEREC same-day crown creation to create dental crowns in an efficient and cutting-edge manner.
CEREC is an acronym that stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Part technology, part manufacturing device, the CEREC machine utilizes computer-aided design technology to create a customized crown that can then be applied to your tooth during a single visit

Why Would I Need CEREC Same Day Crowns?
Dentist Mounds View
The first step in the CEREC process is identifying whether you need a crown. At his Mounds View, MN, dentist office, Dr. Sharara will assess your damaged tooth as well as the teeth surrounding it. You may need a crown if you have a tooth that:
- Has a large decaying portion that a filling will not fix.
- Requires the removal of inner decay.
- Has a filling that has failed to protect the tooth.
- Is so damaged in appearance that it is not cosmetically pleasing.
How Does CEREC Work?
Dentist Mounds View
If Dr. Sharara identifies that you need a crown, he must first prepare the tooth by removing an outer portion of dental enamel as well as any decayed areas. This creates a rounded, cylinder-like surface for him to properly place the CEREC Same-Day crown.
Dr. Sharara moves an oral camera over the damaged and nearby teeth, and transmits these images to computer software used for constructing the CEREC crowns. Dr. Sharara uses this information to build a custom crown designed to fit only your unique dental structure.
The computer will transmit the digital impression of the crown to a milling machine, which will cut the restoration out of a block of dental porcelain. The entire process of cutting the crown takes less than 15 minutes to complete. Finally, Dr. Sharara will restore your smile by cementing the crown over your tooth.
